Begin with something you actually need to do
Pick a recent task: finding a reference, checking an argument or remembering why you chose a particular approach. Use that task as your comparison. A feature checklist helps, but the useful question is whether you can reach the source and continue your work.
If visual organization matters, Raindrop documents collections, tags and Grid, Headlines, Masonry and List layouts. Those are concrete reasons to consider its approach. Try arranging a representative set of saves around the way you browse and recognize information (official overview).
Give both products credit for AI
Raindrop’s Stella understands meaning rather than just keywords. Its article interface also supports questions, summaries and comparing sources. AI assistance is therefore part of this comparison on both sides, rather than a reason to dismiss one product (Stella, article documentation).
KnowMan answers questions from your saved reading with citations. Free includes five Ask questions a day; Pro removes that daily limit. Search by meaning requires Pro. On Free, search falls back to keywords. Test the question you care about, then open the cited material and judge the answer yourself.
Reading and highlighting deserve their own test
Raindrop includes a clean article reader and retains article text. Its Free plan includes unlimited highlights, while full-text search requires Pro. That makes reading and annotation meaningful comparison points, rather than features to assume are missing (reader documentation, plan details).
KnowMan’s Free plan includes unlimited saving, full-text search, automatic article organization, highlights and annotations without limits. Save an article you already know, highlight a useful passage and search for it later. Check whether the resulting knowledge base supports your next task.
Keep the decision beside the reading
KnowMan’s Memories store what you decided and why, next to the reading behind that decision. For example, after researching a purchase or a pricing change, keep the chosen approach and its reasons together. Your next question can start from that recorded thinking.
This is a reason to try KnowMan, without claiming another product cannot support your process. Evaluate the actual sequence: save sources, ask a question, check citations and record the decision. Notice which steps you would repeat regularly and which you would skip.
Connect agents around a real task
Raindrop has an official hosted MCP server. Its documentation establishes that agent access belongs in the comparison; check its current documentation for access conditions before choosing a plan (official MCP documentation).
KnowMan’s six tools are kb_search, kb_get_item, kb_ask, kb_memories, kb_recent and kb_save. Connected Claude, Codex, Cursor or your own MCP agents can search, read, ask, retrieve recent items and save links. Agents can read Memories, but cannot write them. Start with a task that needs both a source and your previous decision.
Compare plans and keep your exit route clear
KnowMan Free costs $0. Pro costs $12.99 a month or $99 a year. Every new account starts with 14 days of Pro, without a credit card. Pro includes semantic search, feeds, newsletters, ingestion rules, summaries, API access and export to Obsidian, Logseq and EPUB.
Raindrop documents HTML, CSV and TXT exports, with uploaded original files available separately as ZIP. See its pricing page for current Pro prices. Before moving material, keep an original export and check destination support; this page does not promise a Raindrop-specific KnowMan importer or metadata mapping (exports, pricing).
